Create an Asset Inventory

The Streetscape Assets record type is used to track an inventory of community assets, such as bike racks, benches, lights, planters, and any other asset used to improve public space in your neighborhood. Whether you are tracking street trees or managing garbage cans, you can use Ginkgo to create an accurate inventory of all assets in your community's streets and public spaces.

In addition to working with Ginkgo on your desktop, you can also access Ginkgo from the browser on a mobile device (tablet or phone). This may prove useful when you are out walking around your neighborhood creating new records for your assets or reporting any Issues associated with specific assets. This article will show examples of your Ginkgo interface set to an iPhone SE screen size so that you can see how this works on a small screen size in case you decide to work with your Ginkgo account this way.

Tip: It may help to set up a Bookmark icon on your devices home screen to help you quickly access your Ginkgo account and ensure you don't get logged out while you're working in it. This can be done for Chrome, Safari Desktop, and Safari Mobile.

Viewing Streetscape Assets on your Map

Inside the Map (https://app.ginkgo.city/map) feature of Ginkgo:

1. Select the FILTERS button on the left vertical toolbar.
2. Check the box labelled Streetscape Assets.

Any existing Streetscape Asset records will show on the map once this box has been checked and your map view includes the geographic locations for these records. With this filter active, assets can now be viewed and added directly onto the map.

Tip: If the records you uploaded or any updates you just made are not visible on the map, try adjusting or panning your map view and/or refresh the browser to apply your latest changes to the current map view.

Adding Streetscape Assets on your Map

With Streetscape Assets visible, directly adding streetscape assets into the map is simple. Asset locations can always be updated, so don't worry too much about getting things perfect initially if you need to move quickly. We recommended that you use visual aids like Building Footprints, Property Boundaries/Parcels, and Curb Lines when available in the map layers to locate assets.

If you need to make the asset locations more accurate, Ginkgo enables you to achieve this multiple ways. Locations can be edited within a satellite base-map to visually identify assets, or specific GPS locations can be used with the Locate Me feature. 

1. Drop a point on the map by clicking/tapping.
2. Select the LOCATION DETAILS button on the left vertical toolbar.
3. Select Add A Record inside the panel.
4. Under Streetscape Details, Select Streetscape Assets.

Completing this will take you into the EDIT window. To access this window again after creating the asset, the EDIT button can be accessed in the map view.

1. Select the asset on the map.
2. Select the  LOCATION DETAILS button.
3. Select the EDIT button to open the editor for this record.

 

Editing Streetscape Asset Details

When an asset is created, the required fields must be filled in before Ginkgo create the record and display it on the map.

Required fields includes:

• Asset Type (category): Field where category of streetscape asset can be assigned.
• Status: Whether or not the asset is in use.
• Visibility: Whether the asset is Public (anybody can view the record if you share it on maps and dashboards outside your account) or Private (only Ginkgo users can view it when logged into the account).

Additional fields that can be added to asset inventories include:

• Radius in meters: Used to indicate the perimeter of asset's utility service area.
• Redirect URL (QR Code): When the asset's QR code is scanned, the user will be redirected to the URL provided.
• Asset Subtype: Multiple subcategories to describe and filter your asset records.
• Tags: Customizable description tag (who created record, owner, etc.)
• Photo(s): Photo that will show up in location details.
• Notes: Additional text.
• Map label: Viewable label on map if enabled.

 

Specifying Asset Locations on your Map

After creating the initial asset locations, there is always the option to make the location more accurate. Ginkgo has multiple ways to achieve this. If you want to use satellite imagery, you can use base-maps. Another way to do this is to use the Locate Me feature with a smartphone.

Using the Satellite Base-map

Satellite imagery can be used to see where streetscape assets are. This is useful for assets like trees and street-lamps, which often appear on the satellite imagery.

1. Select the TOOLS button on the left vertical toolbar.
2. Select the Base maps Dropdown.
3. Inside select a Base-map, choose Satellite.

After viewing the imagery and selecting the point where the assets exist, streetscape assets can be added these point exact points.

Using "Locate Me" Inside the EDIT window

By using mobile devices out in the field, Ginkgo can use your device's GPS to pin point your location and apply that location to your asset records. If the location seems off by a few feet, you can tap the map where you want the correct location to be and Ginkgo will use this as the asset location instead. This makes creating assets with accurate map coordinates fast and easy.

1. Select or create the asset on the map.
2. Enter the EDIT window, by selecting the EDIT button or creating a new record.
3. Under the Nearest Address box, select Locate Me.
4. Check the updated location in the map.
