Import Records From an Existing Spreadsheet or Building Permit Dataset

Bulk importing is a great way to populate your maps with multiple records and set up automated integrations in the future. 

This is primarily done through the Tables feature in Ginkgo. In Tables, multiple records can be viewed in the tabular form and CSV files can be uploaded and downloaded to import or export multiple records at once.

Using Tables to Bulk Import

In Tables,

1. Select the Development Activity tab.
2. Choose your area inside the dropdown menu.
3. Select the blue upload CSV button.
4. Either choose a CSV file to upload, or drag your CSV file into the browser window..

When you are uploading your CSV file, it is important that the CSV file is structured correctly. Ginkgo requires specific headers and data to properly create records. A template is provided to help you make sure the records are created without issues.

Required Development Activity Fields

It is important to complete the required fields in the CSV file first, to enable Ginkgo to add records into the map. 

• name: The primary title of the record. Can be address or any titles.
• address: full address of the location. (Street Address, City, Zipcode, State)
• status: 
• visibility: Can be either Public or Private.
• development_type: New Construction, Major Renovation, Minor Alteration, Demolition, Other

The development activity records also supports additional fields to be displayed. The additional information can be added to its respective columns in the CSV file. These can also be accessed inside maps by clicking in EDIT button for each record one at a time. 

The development activity records also contain other fields. Ginkgo fills in some values automatically including:

• id: 
• the_geom:
• longitude
• latitude
• company_id

There are other optional fields that may be useful for you. Either the information can be added in the CSV while bulk importing the development records or inside the maps screen with the EDIT button.
